I already have a Wi-fi extender upstairs but it’s pretty poor and probably lacks any security encryption, I’m assuming the official EE smart disc covers more Wi-fi range and is better compared to the Wi-fi repeaters people tend to buy on Amazon for like £20-40

Hi,

The wifi signal upstairs is quite bad, I just want to know if the EE smart wifi disc is any good?

Also, if I want to buy one, would I have to pay an extra £10 per month on my existing contract or can I just buy one outright, connect it and call it a day?

Hi @youface ,

If WiFi signals have problems travelling between the floors and walls in your property, you are likely to find that WiFi repeaters are likely to be impacted by the same issues.

I would highly recommend consideration of powerline network adapters, and to have a WiFi access point at the far end (powerline network adapters need not bundle WiFi functionality if you do not need this).

In my case, I use Devolo powerline adapters both with and without WiFi functionality, others do not like me recommending this brand. Good luck!

The EE Smart WiFi is £10 pm extra on top of your BB.

However you could consider buying outright WiFi Extenders . They carry the signal over your mains electricity.

Can I not just purchase a smart Wi-fi disc from the EE product store for £75, connect it myself without paying £10 per month ?

Yes, no reason why you can't just buy a EE Smart WiFi Disc for £75 as you do have the EE Smart Router. Bit expensive compared with a generic WiFi Extender/Powerline which will work with a generic router.
