Third Party Router Difficulties

Hi all,

Let me start by noting i am an absolute novice when it comes to the world of broadband, and internet connection.

I have been using EE Fibre Max (G Fast) for a little over a year but have started to have some issues with it dropping out which led me to thinking perhaps its time to upgrade to a nice flashy router that i had planned to anyway.

I went out and bought an ASUS gaming modem router that i had read (incorrectly) on an online forum worked with G Fast.

Now every single installation guide i could find all mentioned connecting from the wall, to the modem, then to the router. Only issue being i have the EE Smart Hub (I think) which acts as the modem too, so the only connection i have is the G Fast plug on the wall with the cable direct into the EE hub - but i cannot find a thing online about doing it straight into the router without first into an actual modem.

Now i since learned that the router in question does not do G Fast, however i would have assumed it would still pick up that there was an internet connection when i plugged in the cable from the wall?

Would anybody be able to advise if, with a G Fast compatible router, i would be able to plug straight from the wall socket to the modem router or if i would 100% have to have a separate modem?

Have a look at the https://www.asus.com/uk/Networking-IoT-Servers/Modem-Routers/All-series/DSL-AC88U/ which will handle G.Fast and plugs straight into the wall.

Which model do you have, can it be sent back?

Asus gaming routers, generally entitled "RT-...", are pure routers & do not have any modem, G-Fast or otherwise, in them.
