My landline went down three days ago - an engineer is coming on Tuesday. My broadband was working fine until tonight when it too went down. Is it fair to assume that the two issues are connected and that the Openreach engineer will be able to fix it?

Probably preparing to fix it now. If it worked once OR will be able to fix it.

Just to update. Highly efficient service by both EE and BT Openreach. Engineer visited today and sorted the problem in a few minutes.

It's all a bit boring, but I live in a huge block of 677 flats and we have various BT boxes full of incomprehensible (to us!) wiring scattered around the basement of the building. The Openreach engineers who come here are familiar with the block and the elderly cabling system which dates back to the late 1930s.

Yesterday the engineer found that one of the two wires to my landline had come loose, possibly because another engineer working in the box had removed it by accident. He replaced it and all was well.
