Where did you yourself get this device itself originally? Did you buy it yourself new direct from EE or from a 3rd-party reseller or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different. Was it originally on contract or PAYG? How old is it? EE won't unlock contract devices less than 6 months old.

Hi all, I'm planning on going backpacking and need to unlock my phone so that I can purchase new SIM cards at airports to use locally. Can anyone advise me on how to do this and what is best please? As I'm all new to this and unsure how best to go about this - thanks

@Chelsea_house EE will only unlock your phone if you’ve had it for six months or longer if it’s a contract device. PAYG you can request when ever. All the information you need is HERE and how you can make this request.

if the device is 2nd you need to call customer services to request this and there is a £8.99 unlock fee to pay.

But everything you need to know is with in the link I posted.
