Unlock an orange phone.

Hi .

I have an old Samsung GT-1230 on T mobile. I love this phone for it's simplicity and the built in radio.

It has been playing up recently so I have dug out its twin which I have had in storage ( unused ) for a number of years.. This second phone is locked to the Orange network.

How can I get EE to unlock it so I can carry on as if it were my old phone by putting the T mobile sim in it.

I have been talking with EE for most of the afternoon and got nowhere so far.

Hi Chris thanks for the reply ,

I have spoken with customer services. On the phone Two very nice chaps from Ireland.

and before that an online chat with two different people at an Indian call centre.

They both did try to help but no luck so far .

Mostly I kept getting told that the IMEI number (for the orange phone) was not on their database. One of the irish chaps said "it was the first time he had ever been asked to unlock an Orange phone" . He gave me three codes while we were talking but none worked.

The phone displays "Network Lock" and is inviting me to enter a code.

It is an old phone but I like it a lot.

@PB1002 EE doesn’t have any centres outside the UK/Ireland.

You could alway try searching on eBay for phone unlockers

I just did a search using “unlock code for a Samsung GT-1230” Just contact one of the sellers to see if they can help.

I did search that term first before widening my scope.

£20.00 is too much for me.

I have been paying Orange ,T mobile and EE for years.

My broadband and Landline are with EE.

EE call orange one of their "legacy brands" I think that they should step up.

Just to be clear - they have not said they will not unlock it .

They say that they can but it could take a long time - many weeks.

The things they have tried so far have not worked.

It makes one wonder why a bloke on a market stall claims he could do it in 10 minutes for £20.00

and yet EE think it is a big issue and a difficult job that could take a long time.

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

Most unlocks are completed within 10 days, but for some older devices we may need to contact the manufacturer to get an unlocking code. If this is the case, it may take a little longer to unlock your device.

I don't think so.

After some time talking to one of your people who was trying to help we got cut off.

Before we got cut off he gave me three different unlock codes to try .

None of these worked.

He then pointed me to this site :- https://myaccount.ee.co.uk/app/device-unlock

This did not work

Nor did texting unlock to 150

Thanks for trying to help. I feel like I am having a groundhog day.

After this conversation I phoned from a landline and spoke to another chap.

He then put me through to his colleague who tried to help but failed.

He did say that it was the first time he had ever been asked to unlock an Orange phone.

I'm just updating this thread for any one else reading it.

I am still waiting for EE to unlock it for me .

I have spoken with James B , Charlotte , Lottie & Linzi so far.

The latest message is that a 'manager ' is gong to chase it up.

Todays message is that "a manager is going to look into it"

This is what I was told last Wednesday and nothing came from that but silence.

I feel that i am the only person pushing this . EE really do seem to be sitting on their hands.
