Can I make WiFi calls using WileyFox Swift2?

I own a WileyFox Swift 2 running Android 8.1, on EE pay monthly. Can I make WiFi calls? Cannot find any settings on phone to enable. Got a response from WileyFox support (screenshot attached) stating the phone is capable of WiFi calling, but blame EE. Is this one of those, 'its the phones fault, no, it's the networks fault'?

Hi @stephen5000

The service needs to be activated in Android by the manufacturer. I don't know for sure, but I expect they would need an agreement with EE, daft as that sounds.

I gathered from WileyFox response that they have already enabled the device for WiFi calling. So, I'm right then, it's just a ping pong game between WileyFox and EE?

(and why does the screenshot I attach to my initial post keep disappearing? I have made it 'public', what am I doing wrong?)

Hi @stephen5000,

As @Northerner mentioned, WiFi Calling needs to be implemented in your phone's software by the manufacturer. If the feature isn't showing in your settings, it hasn't been added.

So James, my initial thoughts seem to be correct. WileyFox state, "Your device has the capability to make WiFi calls, but it's down to your network provider to add support for your device..."

And EE then tosses it back saying that it's the phones fault.

Reminds me of 25 years ago when people use to blame Windows 3.1 for crashing, and MicroSoft blamed the hardware for crashing LOL

Shame no one can just grasp the issue, own it, and sort it. Oh well, I'm only a customer, powerless to do anything. This thread will fade fast enough so no one needs to worry about it any more...😁

Support for SIM-free devices using VoLTE & VoWiFi facilities is much improved on what it was several years ago when it was almost non-existent. And EE arguably has the most comprehensive device support of all the major operators.

mmm... OK, what is the 'argument' that EE has the most 'comprehensive device support'? Is there a number available that I can refer to for the number of devices supported by EE compared to say, Vodafone, or O2, or is it more of an emotional type argument?

I'm basing that statement primarily on the number of devices supported for use on VoWiFi.

EE's list is available here and I suspect there are devices not listed there, that are compatible.

Similar lists for other operators are easily available.

Just checked 'Vodafone' and got bored counting after counting about 110 phones, EE is similar. 😁

Don't get me wrong, I love EE, and the 'booster box' they provided me with at the start of my contract years ago without which I would not be able to operate a mobile phone at all! Just disappointed that a British phone manufacturer doesn't seem to be supported by a British phone network...
