Lost important Text Messages

Hi.

I went to send a text message on my IPhone 11 today and noticed that all my previous text messages from a loved one had completely disappeared. I know I haven’t deleted them (I normally use WhatsApp for messages) but they’ve gone. I tried going into settings to see if they had been backed up onto the Cloud but the switch by Text Messages was set to off (presumably by default). I don’t have a computer so I don’t link the phone to iTunes. Is there any way of retrieving the messages? I’m distraught as they have massive sentimental value. Any help would be very gratefully received.

Unless you have automatically backed up on iCloud, or another service then they are lost.
