Apple Watch Gift Confusion

I have purchased an apple watch on my EE account (monthly subscription) but the watch is for my partner. He has his own EE account and iphone but i want to gift him the watch. Will the watch i ordered work or be able to be paired with his phone and number?

Thanks for responding James - I purchased it on a paired plan with unlimited data

If it's on a paired plan, the cellular services would be linked to your phone number.
