Being Charged for Emojis in a Text Message.

On looking at my bill there are higher than normal charges, there was one charge I was expecting but there were quite a few others. On looking up I am now being charged for emojis in my text messages!! I have looked through my phones settings but cannot see any viable option to stop a message containing emojis (as I keep forgetting) from sending. I have also gone through my text message service (Textra) again to no avail. Can anyone suggest or does anybody know a way i can have mms charges barred and any sent/received to be blocked at all please.

@JLW79 : Your phone should warning you that it is converting to MMS.

Also look in your Messaging app at (like) Msgs Settings > More Settings > Text Msgs > Input Mode > UNICODE.

In addition, this can vary between Apple & Android

Using the Unicode alphabet on Android eliminates MMS charges for static emoji in my experience - only animated ones trigger a conversion.

No idea about Apple - that usually seems a law unto itself!
