My number is being used to call others

I have received a call from an unknown number saying my number had called them. It was a missed call and no-one was talking using my number. I have received calls from numbers and phoned back when I didn’t recognise the number and the person said they hadn’t called. It looks like this has just happened to me. How can I stop this?
