am not receiving calls or missed call alerts when I am on another call. I run a business so spend a lot of time on the phone and am missing out on work.

Two separate issues here..

1: Not receiving calls when on a call - have you enabled call waiting in your phone settings?

2: Missed call alerts. These are enabled in your voicemail settings by dialling 222 or speed-dial 1 and choosing the settings menu. They should be generated when a call has not rung on your phone (thus generating missed call notifications) and a voicemail has not been left.
