249 text suspicious

I have received a text from 249 asking to fill.im a survey about my sim card delivery.

I am not an ee customer or have I ordered a sim.. I have deleted the text but should I take any further action?

Further to this i did speak to a customer services rep who confirmed 249 is ee but that my number is notnrecorded on ee's systems.

It is strange that you've received the text if you are not with EE.

Have you had the number on EE in the past at all?

@Michael_D I did have an ee account about 6+ years ago (maybe more) I think it was now but that number was ported elsewhere and then again to my current provider.

I'm still not sure why you would get one after all that time.

You've done the right thing in deleting it when you aren't currently with us. If you do get anything similar in the future, can you send us over a screenshot of the message?

Perfect, thanks @Fizz_daz.

It certainly looks like a genuine text from us, but absolutely no reason why you'd get it, other than that someone may have given it as a contact number in error.

I'll pass it on in case we see any other examples, and I'll reach out if they need your mobile number as an example.

At the moment though, there is nothing to worry about, no one else will have access to your number if it is still working with your current provider.

This is the one thing I am worried about as it is the second case of 'funny' messages I have had in the last week. One from yourselves and one from another organisation. I did ask the agent yesterday and they definitely said that my number was not recorded on your systems at all (although it may be now as I had to set up a community account with 2FA to post this!!!)

I totally get your concern, especially after receiving another message from elsewhere.

Your number can only be active on one SIM at a time, so if it is working on your phone, no one else would have access to it, and even if that was possible it would show in the systems when our guides searched for it.

Well I'll keep an eye out. I would assume that the only way would be a sim clone but the phone and this sim have not been out of my possesion since I had it.. I run virus and malware scans regularly and I don't click on links at all. So I am a bit bemused as to why I would get these messages in such a short space of time to my number. We'll see going forwards but thanks for the comeback @Michael_D
