When roaming within the EU, you have the option of a £2.29 daily, or £25 monthly charge - both in order to use your UK allowances.

The break-even point for the monthly pass is 11 days, and there can be complications where a single trip staggers bill cycles - your calculations seem correct.

Going to Austria for 9 days

Am I right in thinking that I will be charged £2.29 per day (so £20.61 total) for EU Roaming to be able to use my normal allowance of minutes & texts?

So to be clear TOTAL bill will be £20.61 ?

Would there then be any benefit whatsoever in buying a £25 monthly roaming pass which apparently does away with the £2.29 daily charge - but would actually end up costing me more?

None at all! In respect of the £25 Roam Abroad Pass, If your billing date falls within the 9 days you're away, you'll end up paying more than £25. Just stick with the default £2.29/day.
