Not receiving OTP in Italy with UK phone

I have just moved to Italy and used my UK phone to open a bank account. However, I am not receiving any OTPs. I have double checked the number with the bank, the country code (+44) is included, restarted the phone, tried different mobile networks. None of this has worked. Any other ideas (apart from getting an Italian local number which is my next step...)?

Can you receive non-automated text messages?

As an aside, if you are now resident in Italy - keeping a UK contract mobile abroad is not a realistic long-term option.

Thanks for the reply. I received the standard SMS when I landed (welcome to Italy etc) and when I tried https://www.bulksms.com/test/ it works....

PS I will switch to pay as you go after some back and forth relocating.
