conflicting/incorrect information

a few weeks ago i received this text, it seems to contain incorrect information, why would i lose access to 3G 2 months before it is turned off. also even when it is turned off i should still be able to access data via 2G

Hi @2023tmobileuser

Welcome to the community.
The 3G network will be switched off from January 2024, we'd need to you change the plan before then, if you would still like access to mobile data.

Although 2G remains for now, we do plan to switch it off later in the decade. In fact, all UK networks are looking to close both 2G and 3G over the next decade. While 2G remains, you’ll still be able to place calls and send texts over the 2G network if your device doesn’t let you use the 4G/5G network, but not data.

so i will still be able to use 3G in November and December this year.

it is possible to use data over 2g, i know this because i have used 2g data before (GPRS AND EDGE)

2G data is only usable for the most basic functions.

Is there a reason you don't want to get a 4G phone and take advantage of much newer technology?

i would love to use 4g and 5g but tmobile plans can only use 2g and 3g, unlimited data on tmobile is £12 a month, on ee it would cost £50 a month

Trying to use unlimited data on 2G is going to be very painful, very quickly!

Many phones have an option to disable 3G or force 2G, this may give you an idea as to your expected data service once 3G is switched off at network-level.

i am used to slow data, i get throttled almost immediately at the start of the month to 0.5mbps because there is a fair use policy of 500MB on the unlimited data

On an EDGE-enabled 2G cell, you could get a shade under 10% of the data speeds you are used to. The theoretical maximum of a non-EDGE, GPRS session is around 40kbit/sec.

i forced my phone to 2G to test the speed and i got an EDGE connection with a speed of 0.2mbps

That's quite good for an EDGE cell, at least you know what 2G data is capable of.

i think the speed is high because i am very near the mast, at that speed i would be able to download about 2GB in 24 hours

good news, it is november and my 3G is still working, it looks like i will have 4-5 more months of 3G or maybe more, the 3G switch off seems to have stalled, it is only turned off in one place so far

today is the day tmobile died

looks like it is time to switch to smarty because i do not want to pay £50 a month for unlimited data on EE, i can get it for £20 a month on smarty. EE will now lose a customer of 12 years

when i went to add-on.ee.co.uk today on my tmobile sim card i was warned i will lose data in november 2023, why will this happen, i should lose data in january 2024 when 3G is turned off why am i going to lose it 2 months early

@2023tmobileuser Because EE can switch off 3G in that area. The full switch off is January but sites will start to loose 3G before the full switch off.

EE keeps sending me texts with false information

1st text: from 15th january 2023 you will not be able to access mobile data without wifi. my data kept working after this date

then ee said june 2023, my data kept working after then too

3rd text: the 3g network is been turned off, you will lose mobile data access from november 2023, this did not happen either

4th text: recieved today, you will lose mobile data access from Thursday, also false, 3g is been turned off in january, not this week!

EE had better not cut off my 3g until january, cutting my internet off would be a very bad christmas present from ee
