Roaming charges - need clarification on £2.29 per day vs. Roam Abroad Pass

My account add-on states: £2.29 per day for EU roaming (which cannot be removed).

If I take the option for a 'Roam Abroad Pass' for £15 (just for the time I am away) does this 'disable' the £2.29 per for EU roaming. I see no logic in paying twice.

The Roam Abroad Pass for £15 should remove the per day add-on.

I have both add-ons showing on my account for some reason. I have Roam Abroad but it also shows the £2.29 roaming so am I going to get charged for roaming even though I have the Roam Abroad pass?

If you have the Roam Abroad pass as a Inclusive Extra or chargeable add-on, you won’t have to pay the £2.29 daily charge in the EU.

What is the “£2.29 per day for EU roaming” doing If he is still paying £2.29 per day ?

i ask because Leanne suggests he is still paying that and needs to have “Roam abroad pass” to stop him being charged £2.29 etc.

Hi @Defang,

The daily charge is only billed if you use your allowances in the EU zone without having a active Roam Abroad Pass on the account.

PROBLEM REPORT

As advised, I texted ROAMING to 150 the day before I left the UK. I received an acknowledgement "Great, your phone is now set up to be used for roaming in any country". My bill has just come through and I have already been charged 3 x £2.29 for the three days in France at the end of the last billing cycle, and I expect I will be racking up a further £2.29 a day before I return to the UK on Wednesday. How as this happened ? That's precisely why I asked the question in the first place. Not happy. What do I do now ?

Texting ROAMING to 150 just activates international roaming on your account. Did you also purchase the Roam Abroad Pass via the text service or in My EE?

I discovered the same thing.

I think there is confusion in the name and function of the £2.29 for EU Roaming.

It means that EE will charge you £2.29 each day you use your allowances abroad. £60~ a month on top of your normal payment.

The 2.29 daily charge simply allows you to use your allowance abroad.

You can avoid the charge by activating another additional add on (the names of those are also a bit confusing and have changed too).

I now understand I should have texted ROAMING PASS (and not ROAMING).

My current month has (to date) used 9 days x £2.29. If I buy a ROAMING PASS today for £15 will it cancel out the previous 9 days charges and give me the free remaining 2 days within the 'ROAMING PASS' ? Otherwise 11 days will cost me £25.19 at the £2.29 per day.

So if I had purchased the ROAMING PASS before I left the UK, would it have covered me for a month (overlapping two billing cycles) - remembering, of course, to cancel it when I return to the UK ?

You'd have been charged a pro-rata amount for the time you had the pass leading up to your billing date then £15 for the following billing period.

Sorry for not yet understanding exactly how this works with the pro-rata charge. Having read further, I thought the £15 ROAMING PASS was for a rolling 30-day period so (if selected before leaving the UK) would have covered me for 3 days 'last month' and 11 days 'this month', after which I cancel it and have a single one-off £15 charge.

The pass is charged per billing period. If you cancel during your monthly billing period you’ll be charged £15 for the full month, not just for the days you had the pass.

So I think I'm finally there. If I had selected ROAMING PASS before I left the UK, I would have been charged 3/30 x £15 for the three remaining days of my billing cycle, then a full £15 for the next billing cycle (only 11 days in France, but then I would cancel).

Are you sure about that? Where's that documented? How do I get the Roam Abroad Pass? makes no mention of it:

Why hasn't that sentence been carried forward if it's still meant to be pro-rated in 1st month?
