My plan is 40GB data, unlimited texts and calls.

will I be charged for sending pictures or emojis over iMessage or are these included in the texts plan?

@DanJ91 iPhone to iPhone via iMessage is only going to use your data. So you’ll not be charged for that as it’s not a text message it’s an instant message just like WhatsApp/Facebook messenger.
Via text message ( MMS ) you can be. If you don’t want to be charged for that you can turn off the ability to send MMS via Settings>Message and just toggle off MMS Messages.
