Texts from EE while abroad despite mobile data off + no wifi

Hi all,

When I am visiting Japan, with mobile data switched off on my phone, and no wifi connected, although a local carrier (Docomo) has automatically been selected , I am still receiving informational texts from EE. How does this work, without mobile data or wifi?

Welcome to the community.

Text messages aren't sent over a data network. If you're connected to a mobile network, they're likely to come through.
