I hope the weather is lovely and sunny for you in Portugal.

Did you text ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK? this will activate roaming on your account.

You will also be required to purchase a Roaming Pass to use your services abroad.

I don't believe the comment that you will "be required" to purchase a roaming pass is correct... if you don't do so, then you will just be charged the £2.29 daily charge when roaming within the EU.

It is a requirement that the roaming facility is enabled on your phone, without which it won't connect to foreign networks.

This advice all presume pay-monthly, which is not certain from the OP either.
