A friend has sent me a picture message, when trying to retrieve it several times. The phone number says star with 447????? Any ideas about this thank you

Could you share a screenshot of what you see? Normally you would receive a text from EE with a password and link to retrieve.

Your phone is not set up for MMS. For most phones, you can download the MMS settings needed from the online set up tool . This will save you having go to EE's MMS repository.
