Are you using an Android phone or Apple?

Does the recipients phone keep ringing after this message on your phone? Is this an audible message or on-screen?

When I call any number on my ee mobile, if no one answers after 4 rings (approx 5 secs) the line goes dead. I get the message "Number you dialed is busy". However I have experimented, calling my own landline and friends phones which I know are not being used. For some reason my mobile will not wait any more than 4 rings before disconnecting. If I call the relevant numbers using different phones the problem does not occur.

Is there something on the sim card that can be configured to allow the phone to wait a reasonable length of time before disconnecting. Ideally the line should be kept alive until either I hang up or the phone being called goes to voicemail.

No the recipients phone goes dead after 4 rings. The message appears on my phone - on screen.

If the recipient is close to their phone and answers within the 4 rings, then all is ok. The problem is it takes most people longer than 4 rings to lift their receiver.

A rejection is sent by the recipients phone, evidenced by them having full control over any voicemail - so that is odd behaviour.

Are you using an Apple phone or Android? Is there any pattern to the network you are calling when this happens?

Using basic Nokia 110 handset with EE 4G sim. Not sure what you mean by "pattern to the network".

Do you know any other EE users locally, who you could potentially swap SIM with?

It would be interesting to see if this issue followed your SIM or remained with the phone. Control over ringtime is always with the recipient of a call.
