Can't access voicemail abroad

Can someone help me with how to access my voicemail abroad? I am in Canada for 7 weeks and I can't access my voicemail. I don't remember ever setting up a pin number and it's asking for a pin when I call. I'd rather not call customer services as its £1.28 a minute

If you're being asked for a voicemail PIN and you've not set one up before leaving the UK, you are likely in a catch-22 situation.

At one time, the default was your mobile number - if not CS can reset it.
