USA roaming

I’m in US and my plan states my UK data package can be used here. However I am getting texts from EE telling me to buy a 24 add on data plan. Is this right?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Did you use that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Yes I texted ROAMING and the auto reply from 150 confirmed my device is set up for roaming in any country. However I am having to add the daily add-on at around £10 a day to access data. 🤷🏻

I had a similar issue last summer. Turns out my plan wasn’t compatible with the ROAM FURTHER add on so took intervention from customer care to sort.

The Roam Abroad Pass is £10 and is a 30 day rolling add-on so should not need to be applied every day. Is this the pass you are applying?

Are you able to make calls and texts?

Roam Abroad Pass does say:

How much does the Roam Abroad Pass cost?

£10 per month. This cost will be added to your monthly mobile bill and will appear as a separate line in the add-ons section of your bill.

while the Roam Further Pass , which was replaced by the Roam Abroad Pass from 07/07/21 but was supposed to be otherwise identical, says:

How much does the Roam Further Pass cost?

£11.40 per month. This cost will be added to your monthly mobile bill and will appear as a separate line in the add-ons section of your bill. If you add this service in the middle of your monthly billing period then the cost in the first month will be prorated.

Why the discrepancy in price?

Hi @XRaySpeX,

From my understanding, the Roam Further pass is available to customers with plans pre-7th July 2021 and the Roam Abroad plan is available to those with plans post-7th July 2021.

The prices that you mentioned for each add-on are correct.
