‘No Service’ to make any calls, including to EE for help

I am in SE Asia at the moment and need to call my bank to withdraw money, however it says I have ‘No Service’. I can’t call anyone for help and the EE chat function isn’t operating. I have also been using local SIMs and buying data but they won’t allow me to add money to make calls even though I have full signal. Any help is very much appreciated!

Using your phone abroad is called roaming, and you need to have the "international roaming" facility enabled on your phone for it to connect to foreign networks.

Are you on PAYG or pay-monthly? PAYG phones are auto-enabled for roaming once they are first used in the UK. Pay-monthly users need to activate "international roaming" & "call abroad" within your myEE online account or app.

Also be aware of the call charges as per https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs - your UK allowances will not apply in any Asian country.

Hi, thank you for your response. I used to be on a pay monthly deal but now I am PAYG. I’ll try and check on the app if my ‘international roaming’ setting is enabled. I had signal when I was in Thailand a couple of months ago but now I don’t for some reason. Don’t know what has changed. I am prepared that the call will be expensive but I’m willing to pay as it’s important and I don’t know what other option I have. I have bought an ‘add on’ - 100 minutes to ‘Rest of the World’ for £3, seems very cheap but it’s a start maybe. Just can’t get anywhere with no signal.

@Beth124 : PAYG is auto enabled for roaming as long as you've used the SIM in the UK previously. You won't see any of those settings & don't need to change anything. If outside EU, do you have enough credit for making calls & texts from abroad?

Did you use that PAYG SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad? EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network before they can be used abroad. If it wasn't you can't now use it until you return to UK.
