Can you give wifi calling priority even when there is some mobile signal?

This question was discussed a couple of years ago, but I just wondered had there been any new developments in 'forcing' your phone to prioritise WiFi calling. Sometimes I note on my phone that when I do get a stray 1 bar EE signal inside, VoWiFi is dropped in favour of it - I'd rather stick to my 5 bar WiFi signal. Phone is running Android 10, and set to 'auto select network'...

Are you having any problems using your phone with that bar of (presumably) 4G/VoLTE signal? The signal indicators are only a rough guide to service and one bar should be plenty sufficient to make & receive calls.

Most recent Android releases do allow you to choose between "mobile preferred" & "WIFi-preferred" within the VoWiFi settings.

On my Android 10, as you can see, I only get a WiFi on/off option - no further settings, though in the onscreen text, it does state I should be able set 'preferences'!

It is a Cat S52 - it shipped with Android 9, and updated to 10. I believe this is it's final update. Certainly when you go into 'systems' it states that it is already up to date, so I wouldn't hold my breath for an Android 11 update... I'm sure the actual hardware could cope, and it's always confused me with why the OS can't simply be updated, just like installing an update on a Windows laptop, but then my tech knowledge is rather basic LOL

@stephen5000 It’s down to the manufacturer if they want to allow that device to update to newer firmware.

that device was released November 2019 and with it being a basic Android device you’ll get no more than 2 years of updates at best.

Fine with me, my previous Nokia was 12 years old before I couldn't get a button repaired on it! In my younger years, I use to be an avid 'early adopter', but age has made me wiser to the squandering of money on something new & shiny! With the Cat having a strong 'drop friendly' case , with some waterproof properties, it could well see me out LOL

Just to round off this thread, I got a response to Cat support (who have been excellent with my queries!)

"The life cycle of this model has ended on October 2021 so this device is no longer supported with software version updates..."

Like I said, doesn't worry me, would have liked the additional WiFi calling features, but I can live with it just having the basic functionality...

I have a CatS52 phone on Android 10. I use WiFi calling at home as EE don't offer a network service. My WiFi is excellent, with a 5 bar signal showing on phone, and a 35Mb connection.However on calls, I can always hear the person on the other end 100%, crystal clear, and loud, yet often get complaints that they can't hear me properly with call constantly dropping out, and me having to constantly repeat myself.

Is there anything I can do to improve matters?

It may be worth having a chat with your broadband provider to see if they can offer anything for you, if no other users have any ideas on the community.

So, you've no idea then LOL Troubleshooting 'broadband' seems a dead end, when I have a fast reliable connection, and I can hear my caller perfectly...

You can view Wifi Boosters on the EE Shop, if this would be useful for you @stephen5000

If this is just the one device, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer to see if there is anything they can suggest for this happening.

iPhone users can test their network quality by following these instructions:

Test Wi-Fi networks with Apple Network Responsiveness – Apple Support (UK)

My phone disconnects from WiFi during Facetime calls because my phone thinks my internet connection is bad. I ran that test across a surfeit of Apple devices that I own and all of them turned their noses up at my connection. The connection is Gig1 by VM and while it's good for downloading, it's bad for everything else.
