Hi. I have been on the phone to someone from EE. I cant help but feel dodgy about a link I clicked while upgrading a benefit.

I was asked to click a link to approve terms and conditions and the whole thing did not feel right. Could anyone help put my mind at ease?

The message was as follows:

Hi david. Please join me in a screen sharing session. It's secure and simple - just click here: (if you are not the intended recipient do not click on the link and delete the message) https://eu2.lightico.com/Default.aspx? <The rest of the URL removed, due to containing personal information>

It could be legit, EE do I think get you to view and accept the new terms via a link, but I would delete the end of the URL as someone else could access some personal details if it's still valid?

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

That's a genuine terms and conditions link from EE.

Hope this helps but your mind at ease.

i've received the same, legitimate or not this is poorly worded and just adds confusion and worry to people in an age where everyone is concerned over scam links.

what happens if you don't click it?

I'll go one step further - if you don't want to partake of whatever an unsolicited text message is offering you, then simply delete the message and no harm will result.

You can always use the 7726 shortcode to report suspected spam messages.

There are two things you can do to check the validity of this.

Firstly, check your bank or credit card statement. If the name of the recipient of the funds looks fishy then that should raise a red flag.

Secondly, call EE's customer services on 150 to check with them, i.e.: get it from the horse's mouth, to see if this was legit.

I too have received an email to start a screen sharing session. It seemed like it must be a scam so I have ignored it.

If this is really legit then it goes against all the advice given to people about avoiding scams - the URL is not EE but some random 3rd party, the email has bad grammar, the process requires disclosing a one time PIN number.

A really terrible process.

Welcome to the Community.

I definitely don't want there to be any confusion with this at all.

For instance, if you upgrade with us over the phone/online, we will advise you directly that we're sending a link over to run through the new terms and conditions of what's been agreed.

If you are not discussing any account changes with us directly, then anything received would not be genuine, and needs reported to us. Please never click links, or offer one time PINs without having contacted us directly.

Emails can be forwarded to phishing@ee.co.uk as seen on our help page Online Security: Avoid and Prevent Scams.
