If someone is on holiday in Spain and has an english number and free calls to the Uk, will it charge me to receive and call them?

It won't cost you anything to receive or make calls to a UK number that is currently abroad.

It's free (within your calls allowance) for you to call & text to & receive them from a UK no. wherever it is in the world. It's they who are roaming, not you.

sorry xrayspex i forgot to add the "about", i was meaning to ask what about sms messages? will they charge me or not?

Same thing. Also you can receive SMS free wherever you are in the world.
