Receive but not send texts

Hello.

I am in Mexico at the moment with a UK EE PAYG Sim which I have used for many years all over the world, mainly just for texts when abroad to family members who haven’t got WhatsApp for example. Phone calls would obviously be expensive.

But since arriving here about 10 days ago (or unintentionally having changed a phone setting!) I have been unable to receive text messages. BUT I can send them and testing another UK phone we have here, it rings when I call.

I would welcome any advice explaining the reason why I can receive but not send texts, bearing in mind I’m an ageing non-techie!

My device is an Oppo A16s on Android.

Are the text from UK mobile numbers or one time PIN codes from companies?

Hello Leanne. Interesting question. The first time I noticed a problem was when I wasn't receiving One-time verification codes from Google Accounts. I had a minor problem with my Gmail account.

Also texts from UK numbers are not being received and calls to my number end almost immediately without ringing out.

However, I can text them and when I call their phone rings.

All very confusing for an old 'un like me.

Have you tried restarting your phone?

If so, can you try connecting to a different network to do this please go into Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Tap OK

Yes, I have already tried restarting the phone.

There appears to be limited options to change carrier. Telcel the main operation offers 4g, 3g, 2g and others such as AT&T and Nextel are shown as unavailable.

My wife had another UK Sim phone here so can try to text or phone my device which is one way we realised the problem.

One thing I should mention. When anyone calls my number there call disconnects almost immediately but occasionally a voicemail alert is left.

To my knowledge I have never activated voicemail on my phone and wouldn't know how to disable it

Sorry, this appears to be getting complicated!
