Please help a dinosaur! I am already in the USA visiting my new grandson. I did not realise I wouldn't be able to receive texts and I need them for authentication codes.

I think I need to add 'roam further' to my very basic monthly pay account? How do I do that when already in the USA, please? Everything I've read is about doing it before one leaves the UK.

@deborahrussell2 : You should be able to receive texts anywhere in the world free providing you are set up for roaming on your a/c. Are you?

You don't need the Roam Abroad Pass just to receive texts but if you want it try texting ROAMING PASS to 150 or add it in your add-ons in your MyEE.

Yes, roaming turned on but getting nothing. Couldn't text 150, of course, but went into add-ons, as you suggested, and bought 100 texts. Now receiving the authentication texts I needed! Thank you for your help (I wish EE made things clearer!).

It shouldn't have been necessary to buy an add-on just to receive texts. Surprised it even worked.

When you say that roaming turned on do you mean just on your phone or on your MyEE a/c? It's the latter that is needed.

If you have signal bars of a local network in the USA, then your roaming facility is active and you should be able to receive text messages without cost.
