I have recently bought a PAYG SIM for an elderly relative for emergency use only (as they are an infrequent user), but I have found that the PAYG SIM does not make/receive calls, whereas a pay monthly SIM in the same phone, in exactly the same location, can make/receive calls. Can anyone tell me why this would be?

Has it been topped up with credit?

To save the SIM going into hibernation due to lack of use, just remember within every 179 days (~ 6 months) to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from any Pack or Add-on you might have.

Yep, £10 added yesterday. I've just been on the phone to EE Tech Support, sounds like it is an issue with the phone rather than the SIM, sorry.

Hi there, I recently bought a Doro 780x for an elderly neighbour who has never had a mobile phone before, thought this would be a good phone as it has only 3 preset numbers to call, which is all he needs for emergencies when out and about. I've also bought an EE PAYG SIM which has £10 credit on it, but the thing is it can't make/receive calls, yet it can see and connect to the EE network, so I am stumped. Anyone any ideas? I've also done a factory reset just in case I made a mistake in setting up the phone, but the problem still persists. The SIM works in other phones, so it isn't the SIM.

That's what it looks like, I know, I'm baffled. They suggested I take the Doro 780x with the PAYG SIM into the nearest EE store (which unfortunately is nearly 2hrs away) so they can run more tests with other SIMs etc to try to resolve the issue. It has me stumped that's for sure.

it says EE on the screen and at least 2 bars, also when I search for nearby networks, it lists EE 4G and when i select automatically select network, it returns a message saying is it registered on network. incidentally, when i call that PAYG SIM in the Doro 780x, it does not ring, it diverts to vm after a while. then a few moments later, the Doro 780x receives an SMS to say you received a call from caller xxx, so it is clearly on the network, but i just cannot understand why it can't make or receive calls
