I live in Thailand, and regularly receive SMSs from EE telling me about how to connect while abroad. I do not need these, and more importantly, they drain my account balance as they seem to count as

international SMS transfers. Any ideas on how I can stop them?

Receiving SMS is free anywhere in the world.

Equally EE's roaming services are intended for use by UK residents travelling abroad for short periods - if you are resident abroad you will be better off long-term having a Thai mobile subscription.

Chris

Thanks for your reply, which is much appreciated.

I understand the reasons for EE sending the (in my case) unwanted SMSs, and for those travelling abroad (holiday etc) getting a once-off SMS advising on the requirements is fine. My case is slightly different, I live in Thailand, have all the local SIMs and email systems, but still wish to retain a UK phone number. But as things are, I get multiple unwanted SMSs that eat up my credit.

For the moment I shall continue to suffer the situation but consider my options as time passes.

Best wishes

**bleep** Chapman

Standard incoming SMS are free anywhere in the world.

Whatever these charges are, I have grave doubts that text messages from EE are the true cause.

W/out chargeable use that PAYG SIM will eventually be completely deactivated. EE PAYG SIMs are deactivated after 6 months of non-chargeable use. You then have a further 3 months to call EE to reactivate it before it is lost completely.

You need to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.
