I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Just make sure roaming international calls and text are activated on your account.

Providing international roaming is enabled on your phone and you are able to connect to a local network in your destination country, you should be able to receive text messages in exactly the same way as you receive them in the UK.

That includes message receipt being free.
