Just been advised that I will be charged £2 a day for using Channel Island networks; since when have they not been part of Britain?

I have been with EE for decades but will leave as soon as this contract is up and go somewhere else.

@Bolitho You can purchase the roam further pass for £10 so you’ll be able to use your tariff as if he was at home you then cancel this when you get back. EE covers the United Kingdom not the British Isles which includes the Channel Islands and always has. And the Channel islands has never been part of Great Britain.

Ok then, explain this -

The Channel Islands are a British Crown Dependency.

If I want to phone St. Helier in Jersey from abroad then I dial 00 44 1534; 00 44 is the international dialing code for the UK.

What is the difference, other than costing me more money for no better service?

@Bolitho A Crown Dependence’s doesn’t make it part of Great Britain. I’m not going to have a conversation because you do not understand the difference between The British Isles, United Kingdom and the Channel Islands and for good measure The British Empire. If you want to argue your right just look at the map I posted and learn the difference.

Not arguing, just want to know why it costs extra to call a UK area code from a UK mobile.

I am fully aware of the extent of the British Empire having sailed around what it used to be for the last 45 years.

It would appear that the text message that I received yesterday from whichever rubbish network it was (signals are appalling) was generic; my plan started in February 2021 so no charges are due anyway.

There's a long-standing quirk with the Channel Islands & Manx, who have UK-format dialling codes & postcodes, but whose telecom networks are not part of the UK and therefore both roaming & international charges apply.

This is true of all UK telecoms operators, fixed & mobile.
