Trying to upgrade - EE Perks code not working

I am trying to do an upgrade, and when I enter a valid EE Perk code, I am getting the error:

Code entered is not applicable with this data plan. Please beware that certain codes aren't applicable if discounts are already applied.

The plan I am trying to upgrade to is a SIM Only 24 Month Unlimited Essentials Plan, and I am doing this directly via the Upgrade section of the website whilst being logged in. The plan I am trying to upgrade to does not have a discount already applied to it, so I'm not sure where to go from here. I have tried generating another code, but that gives the same error.

Can someone please let me know if I'm doing something wrong, or what I can do to resolve this?

The £23 Unlimited Essentials plan is already a promotional deal with a £9 discount over the standard price, so a discount cannot be applied.

The equivalent non-discounted plan you would be eligible to use it on is the £32 Unlimited Essentials.

By my maths, you would be better upgrading to that £23 plan without using a discount code.

Hmm that's strange. It does not show a "was £32" on that particular plan on my page, but does on other options that are available to me.

I also tried to enter the code on the 100GB £20 plan and got the same error. Is this one discounted too?

Yes that plan is also a promotional plan/time-limited offer. Discounts are only available to be applied to EE's core offers, as they cannot be used on top of any other promotions.

EE's Core plans are 25GB Essentials at £25, Unlimited No Frills at £27, Unlimited Essentials at £32, Unlimited Essentials Plus at £36, Unlimited All Rounder at £42 and Unlimited Full Works at £48. As such these are the only plans a discount will work on.
