Thank you for helpful comments. Our house is rather sprawling and there are several walls between the base unit, next to my full-fibre hub, in my study on the first floor, and the drawing room is about as far away as you can get and still be indoors.

Some of the buttons on our cordless handsets were, in any case, becoming unreliable, so we decided to buy a new cordless system (this one with five handsets), and the new handsets have a signal strength indicator (which the originals did not), and I could then see how the signal strength varied as I moved the handset across the drawing room. Fortunately in the most convenient position for the charger unit the signal strength was adequate for the handset to ring, and answering it brought the handset further into the reach of the base unit, so I think the problem has been resolved.

Since yesterday evening calls to our Landline number are immediately met with the message, 'You are with Voicemail'. The landline 'phones no longer ring, but we can use them to ring out.

If the power off wait a couple minutes then back on for the EE Hub on DV does not clear the fault out, you will have to either call EE CS or do the text message to them from a mobile phone that is registered to your account, it is PHONE to 66033 and have EE test it out for you.

Thank you. We have both quad cordless 'phones and two fixed 'phones connected to our line and we discovered this morning. that one of the fixed 'phones (the one remotest from the hub) had lost contact with the hub. Switching it off and on again restored the connection and, lo and behold, the system works again! Our landline is our primary connection, and there seems to have been nothing but trouble with it since we went over to full-fibre connection, so we are far from impressed.

The EE chatbot was of no help as it kept telling us the system was working properly, so we were on the point of telephoning the EE help-line when the loss of connection to one handset was discovered.

Not the FF Full Fibre causing you any issues, it's all to do with the DV Digital Voice side of the EE Operation. If you can keep the eye on it, the ones connected to the back off the EE Hub should work but no guarantee's with it all yet, verdict is still out.....

This is very helpful. Our drawing room, in which the problematic telephone is located, is quite a long way from the EE hub. There is another power socket in the drawing room a few feet closer to the hub than the one we are using, so perhaps if we try using that it will be more reliable.

@Flapdoodle I've had this with a DVA, but not only was it the furthest possible point away from the hub, it was the other side of a double thickness breeze block wall due to the internal construction of our house. i.e. the DVA could be considered as being outside the house. Moving it just a few feet to the other side of said wall (i.e. effectively bringing it inside the house) was enough to get it stable.

My old cordless phone system had no issue between the same two end points - so my conclusion was the DECT signal between handset and base station on that was stronger/more stable than it is between a DVA and an EE hub.

So as @JimM11 says, consider the distance, but I would also suggest you look at the walls between that location and the hub. Radio signals are line-of-sight and if they can't penetrate something like a thick/dense or double thickness wall very well, it relies on reflection/scattering of the signal to get it around the house and that can lead to instability or dead-spots.

Pleased you found a solution @Flapdoodle . One thing just to check on your cordless system. Mine has an ECO mode on the handsets which I assume might drop the transmit power down to increase battery life so it might be worth confirming you have nothing like that enabled.

Radio signals are not an exact science. I remember a neighbour of ours building a small home-office extension on the front of his house. He couldn't understand why he had wifi stability problems when the hub was in the lounge no more than 20 feet away. But when I looked at it, the signal path to the hub was through two external (brick and block walls) and at an angle increasing the effective thickness. Going through just one external brick and block wall would have significantly attenuated the signal. The path for the signal to scatter/reflect was through three very nice oak doors facing in alternate directions, We just stuck an ethernet cable in 😀
