I have just transitioned from BT (on FTTC with BT SmartHub2 & DECT on DV port working fine) to EE (FTTP installed yesterday), but the phone not working (error not dial tone). The EE callcentre Tech said my old hub wasn't compatible with EE, and will now send me a replacement EE hub (I have to return the old one). I am concerned ..
1. why H/W incompatibilities (not just firmware/config fix), given all the standards compliance?
2. EE router should have been provided early (like the red-end cable that I WAS sent before install)
3. I am temporarily without my landline
4. other posts here complain same number transitions may add delay
5. installer said circuit "may take 28 days to settle": surely such adjustments only needed for copper to recalibrate ?

Is it possible to have DV over FTTC or even ADSL? The VoIP signals can still come over copper to the home & all it would need is simple modem router with an integrated DECT base station &/or a phone socket.

Standard PCM channels used in the PSTN network are 64Kbps so carrying that even on slower ASDL is easily possible, the challenge come with prioritising voice traffic over anything else to give acceptable quality is the challenge.

BT/Openreach have already converted a number of lines around the country from the old PSTN to DV, must pay a visit to a mate who has it done to see the details.

If anything it may actually get better with everyone kind of moving to fibre will free up some of the bandwidth.
