Sound from phone too faint

Installed a few days ago (in January 2025), I now have an EE Home Phone Plus handfree phone on a BT fibre network.

(The previous internal wiring is now disconnected. The hub is connected to the incoming fibre. The phone is in another room, the base plugged into the mains.)

Choice of caller volume on the phone is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Amplify (which seems to give the maximum volume on this phone).

I have it on 5, and change to Amplify when a call comes in.

I'm 80, but need no hearing aid. The caller's voice is so faint that I have to hold the phone to the ear. That’s very tiring on the arm, especially on long calls. In addition, the phone is quite heavy (nearly 6 ounces).

What solutions are there?

I believe if on a call you can press the answer call button either once or twice to switch to a hands-free speaker mode as opposed to using the earpiece.

The manual also states if you want to make a call using hands free speaker right away, press the answer button twice and then dial the number.

This is based on the BT Advanced Digital Home Phone which seems to be what the EE Home Phone Plus is based on.

@Frank1248 If you still have your old phone, connect it to the back of the router and see how the volume is with the direct connection.
