A 'lot of water-under-the bridge' later, and...
Our 5x DV Handsets connected to our SH32B fell-over (again!) on 4th December.
The usual 'No 'Ringing Tone' on Outgoing Calls, the DV Phones DID ring on Incoming Calls, but again there was no Audio in any / either direction' - etc.

However, I got to speak with an 'EE Guide' who actually seemed to know what he was talking about... (WOW!)
He asked me if we'd ever had a 'SIP Regeneration', and then a little later whether we'd ever had an 'HSS Refresh'.
I'll admit that - at the time - I didn't have a scoobie...

However, another 'long-story-short' and he emailed through this information to me:
And this is what is meant by the 'TLA's' above:

SIP - Session Initiation Protocol:
Telephone voice (DV) traffic is now carried in IP packets.
SIP is the protocol that handles the signalling to set up and tear down IP borne telephone calls.
For example, there is a SIP message that starts the process of setting up a call (SIP INVITE message) and also a series of SIP responses which indicate conditions such as 'Busy', 'Ringing' etc.
At the end of the call, one side or the other will send a SIP BYE message to end the call. The SIP INVITE message, in particular, carries quite a lot of information about things such as destination. (e.g. telephone number).

HSS - Home Subscriber Server:
The Home Subscriber Server (HSS) is a central database that stores information and controls what network services people have access to, including calling features and any apparent issues that arise from these features.
He said: "By scanning the HSS we can identify any issues/discrepancies with features and alert the correct department to get this issue resolved."

After the 'HSS Refresh' he actually found 'an issue with one of the calling features within the voice service on the network'.
But he was unable to 'narrow-down' the 'issue', as this can only be investigated / solved by the 'TMC'.
So he raised a Ticket to have this 'issue' resolved by / on 9th December.
He did give me a VOL055-977********* Fault Reference Number (which, as I know, is an Openreach internal reference number).
AND - he did state that this OR Ref# could be tracked via 'BT.com/faults'.
But, (and trust me - I've tried everything!), it cannot be tracked by the likes of thee and me, sadly....

Anyhoo - our DV is still unreliable (it last fell-over on 21st December). So I've since written a snotty 'Complaints Form' to EE - watch-this-space...
AND - I had to REMONSTRATE with a member of the 'EE Executive Complaints' team - who originally wasn't going to pay us Compo for a 'Total Loss Of Service' back in October - claiming that 'intermittency' doesn't 'count'...
He was rapidly 'corrected' by 'yours truly' as to the 'error of his ways'...

If this latest missive of mine has helped anyone, then I'm pleased.
However, if it's all a bit too 'technical', then I apologise - BUT - to 'defeat the enemy, you need to think like the enemy'...
(to quote Fernando Alonso, paraphrasing 'The Art Of War', back-in-the-day...)

Ciao bene,
Louis.

The phone rings and there is a dial tone.....

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

I had this exact problem after moving to EE from BT around the same time as you switched where callers can't hear me nor can I hear then and spent several hours with help line over several weeks trying to sort it out. Reset would temporarily fix. We also tried different replacement handsets. In the end EE sent me a replacement router. That has solved the problem. They told me it wasn't a known problem but it looks like others are having it.

Some progress! Update on my last message...

Investigation at EE end today showed my router had no errors. However, the EE helpline told me that that the 2.4GHz and 5Hz WiFi channels had been turned off somehow. (I hadn't turned them off! ) When EE turned them on, my phone immediately started working properly again without a router reset!

I believe you can check the channel status on the EE hub manager - and turn it on there if it is shown as being disabled. (Open Hub Manager by typing 192.168.1.254 in the browser address bar.)

You can try that as a fix instead of a reset - although the router did show orange for about a minute while the channels were enabling. (I suspect a reset has the effect of turning on the channels which is why that works)

EE said they could not escalate further internally as to why my channels had got disabled because the problem was now fixed and there was no error code to escalate the issue with!! So basically - it seems their processes can only resolve known problems - not new ones!! Very curious.

Would be interested to hear if this fixes anyone else's issues and I will let you know if my channels mysteriously get disabled again.

Thank you for posting. I'm sorry if you're having problems with Digtial Voice dropping. With the issue being intermitant it can be very difficult to pin point whats causing it. Wuth what you have said it sounds like its an issue with either the hub itself of the handset. How many phones do you have connected to the hub and does the problem occur on all of them? If you send me your details, I can run a few checks.

I have sent you a private message with instructions on how to contact the team.

No. Changing the router seemed to change the frequency of the problem for me from every three days to once a month or so. EE will do this on request.

EE didn't have a known issue number to cover this as it get fixed with a reset and support told me there is no mechanism to raise as an issue on EE's systems once a problem is fixed! That being the case I imagine it will not be solved in the near term. 😞

When I sent my old (three month old) router back, they sent me a message to say it was being recycled - rather than send it to an engineer.

We have the same problem! We were with BT and had no issues then we were told we had to move to EE and had a new ee router etc supplied and then digital voice fails on a weekly basis. Had a 2nd replacement router supplied, new handsets supplied still the same - works for a few days then nobody can hear you or them.

Lost my will to live now on this, tomorrow (on my mobile) - I will be escalating. Enough is enough!
