You're obviously still using something on EE despite thinking you're not, they wouldn't charge you 30p per time just for nothing

Not wishing to pay EE exhorbitant charges for using my phone abroad, I purchase a data sim package from Ubigi..whole cost is £9 in total. But I see I am being charged 30p by EE for each message I send. My iPad shows my mobile data connection is with Ubigi but still I am charged by EE. Any suggestions as to what’s happening and also how to contact EE via chat/email? as being abroad, they expect me to call them incurring a charge for this also, concerning a problem which I think is of their making! Doesn’t seem quite fair to me

So that’s sent via your iPhone SIM card as it’s linked to your Apple account. An iPad can’t send texts natively and routes it through to your iPhone to send, so you are charged for sending that text from EE.
The iPad’s can only send iMessages as that’s a data sent message not a text message

Text msgs don't use data & so don't use your mobile data connection. They are sent over EE's mobile network & therefore charged.

Where are you? I can't see where abroad you would be charged only 30p for a text msg other than in the EU when on PAYG w/out an active pack.
