How to check data plan is 5g compatible?

I'm currently on a SIM only contract that I'm very happy with, but my phone is quite old now and I was planning on buying a Google pixel (maybe 9a). I'm running under the assumption that I can simply put my SIM into the new phone and bing bang boom, but the Google pixel specifies it needs a 5g compatible SIM and data plan, and I can't work out where to find that info or check (through settings my SIM says preferred 4g/3g which I think is still fine I just wouldn't get 5g benefits? - but I'm not sure about the data plan part??) thanks!!

All EE SIMs are 5G compatible in a 5G device in a 5G area.

What model of phone do you currently have?

From your description it is likely that your current phone isn't 5G compatible if the option is not appearing, but the SIM should be.

I used to have a P30, great phone (camera was incredible) and was similarly sad to change it.

Most definitely a phone compatibility issue as opposed to SIM, as they are not 5G devices.

Had to keep moving with the times unfortunately, especially with the pace of change these days and the importance of software and security updates.

@Babsiee , if your SIM card is not 5G compatible, you can simply request a replacement SIM card. How long ago is it since you have had the SIM card? If you had it before 2020, you may need a replacement SIM card.

All EE's SIMs are multi-technology and are not specific to any G.

The only potential issue with older SIMs is that they don't support 5G-SA and thus VoNR. They will still work with 5G-NSA.
