Really Stupid EE Top Up process for Data-Only SIM!!!

We have a data SIM for a camera.

Need to Link it our EE account to see balance.

Enter the EE phone number.

It sends a passcode to the camera WHICH CAN'T respond.

Try to get it to send the code to my Vodafone mobile. It won't link that as it sees it is not an EE number.

Try phoning EE. Automated system can't handle giving me a balance. Who designed this system???

PLEASE SORT This EE - I already reported to your staff last month. No change.

They only way to read a text sent to that SIM is to put it in a mobile phone or router.

@andrewclark55 Create an account first once you have an account you can then access that account to see the balance on the account you can then put the sim in a device that doesn’t have a text feature.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have already created an account and this is what I see on logging in (2 screenshots to accommodate it all) - but I still don't see a SINGLE option to check my balance!
Ah, you may say, have you added that SIM card to your account? Well, no, because it insists on sending the confirmation code to the camera! So add your mobile? Well I tried that and thought I had succeeded despite being on Vodafone but no, they still sent the code to the SIM. This kind of sloppy thinking on the part of the Systems Analyst who designed the logic of the website is just not good enough, and if there IS a way through their self-created maze (Everything Everywhere!) I have yet to find it. And no, I am not going to buy another phone just to work around their bad HCI design.

SO DON'T Send it to that SIM card. Email the account holder. Send it to his phone even. Just don't design unworkable systems like this for new users to scratch their head at and try to find Workarounds.

And before you ask if I am too inexperienced in technology to use an EE data-only SIM I have been an IT Consultant for 40 years and specialise amongst other things in comms.

Allowing authentication SMS to be sent to alternate mobile numbers could rather defeat the point of an authenticated text.

What would stop unauthorised third parties, once they're aware of such a setup, from requesting the text is sent to their number of their choosing? And thus gaining an element of control over your number.

Well, that mobile number has itself to be authenticated when I added it to
my account.

I have just started using a data-only SIM in my laptop and have the exact same problem. Why are all the respondents so blind to the problem??

HOW DO I LINK A DATA-ONLY SIM TO MY EE ACCOUNT?

@jj9ray : By linking its mobile no. In your online MyEE: Home > Plans & Subs > Manage numbers > Add another number > Link EE mobile or SIM.

Thanks XRaySpeX but your answers keep ignoring the problem.

Actually I just solved it for my use case - SIM in a PC slot can receive and display SMS in the settings/'operator messages' box.

Doesn't help Andrew, until he puts his SIM in a different device.
