Iphone messages green not blue?

I have an EE esim in my Iphone 11 but for some reason it will not allow me to send I-messages, (blue) only text messages (green) does anyone know why?

@richsteels are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data ? Are you sending these messages to another iPhone ? Have you set up iMessage? If on cellular data do you have any data allowance? Is this just to one iPhone or all iPhones ?

Yes connected to wi-fi and cellular data I can only send text.
Yes, sending to other I-phones on wifi networks

Yes, I have lots of data

Yes to all iphones

Not sure about setting up Imessage?

I am using the EE sim as an E-sim. My other physical sim works fine on i-phone i-messages but when I switch to EE I do not have I-messages

Hi @richsteels,

You may need to tweak your settings to allow both of your SIMs to use iMessage. Does this Apple Support Article help - Using Dual SIM with an eSIM – Apple Support (UK)?
