Yes, you can use Whatsapp to send photos for free. It just eats your data.

I sent a photo on Whatsapp yesterday, and a 61p showed on my EE account charges. I have over 20g of data left on phone.

73p (61p + VAT) is the price of an MMS. Therefore it must have gone as an MMS, not over Whatsapp.

I have only just installed Whatsapp, so am still finding my way with it. I was replying to someone on there when i sent pic. Was surprised to be charged.

If you replied or sent a message over WhatsApp, it would have been sent using your data allowance.

If you replied or sent a message via MMS, it would have been charged as a picture message at 73p.
