Yes that’s more or less what I found. Surely I can’t be the only one who needs remote access given the amount of smart stuff everyone has now?

Hi there.
I hope someone can help me. Which I have to say EE have been reluctant to do.
I have a tplink Archer NX210 router with an ee data sim that I need to be able to access remotely so I can control cameras and smart stuff. I have tried everything that I can think of to no avail. I’ve searched the internet which mostly says EE uses CGNAT which is the reason.
surely this can’t be the case? Must be thousands of people who rely on 5g for their internet who also have smart devices?

You may be finding yourself up against a limitation of EE's mobile network. The EE mobile network uses Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) resulting in a double NAT, which games consoles often object to, which means you don't get your own public IP address but share it with other users. So you can't be uniquely id'ed on the Net & therefore your LAN cannot be addressed from outside for unsolicited accesses. This is unlike fixed BB.

If this occurs there is nowt you can do to avoid it.

Hi,

you need to install the TP ‘tether’ app - you then pair the device & can fully remote manage.

You can receive sms txts & send sms’s plus manage WiFi plus connected devices - full control from the app.

hope this helps.

It sounds like you are a knowledgeable sort. How is it then that if I put my ee phone sim in said router I can access my cameras?

Hi. I use the Reolink app for the cameras Tplink Tapo for the smart stuff. Before we changed to EE I could also access the router remotely with Tplink Tether.

Hi Chris.
Me again. To prove a point I nipped to the shop picked up a Vodafone sim and away we go. Access to everything. Trouble is Vodafone network coverage here is pretty awful which is why I changed to EE.
