Will EE 5GEE Router, work with EE PAYG Sim?

Hello, I own a 5GEE Router, I cancelled my plan, was told keep router as gesture. Now been using it on 30day rolling data only sim, seems quite expensive, due to be cancelled in 7 days. Now was thinking, every now and then when I want to make use of the 5GEE Router, will a standard EE PAYG sim work in there once topped up and loaded with data? I am aware of data speed difference doesn't matter to me.
