I'm trying to connect a camera which works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to my mobile broadband Smart 5G HUB, however it won't connect. When I open available signals I only get 'Smart-5G-Hub-3WFM so I imagine that it won't connect due to band steering. Is there a way of creating separate SSIDs for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands? If not is there a way that I can temporarily disable the 5GHz band during the initial camera setup?

The admin password should be on the bottom of the hub if you are unsure. Once logged in go to WiFi>Basic and you should see the option there to enable/disable the different bands as well as enable a compatible WiFi SSID which may help with older devices if needed.

I came here to find an answer to exactly the same problem. Thanks for the information - I’ll try this.

what I’d like to know is why this sort of information isn’t provided in simple terms with the hub and on the EE website? It’s not exactly an uncommon issue with security cameras and the like!

Hi @NickRH1

Please make sure the device you are using is connected to the 5G Smart Hub device, either via WIFI or Ethernet.
Open the web browser on your device and input http://192.168.1.1 or http://smart5g.hub/ into the address bar. Then press the Enter key. The Smart 5G Hub’s Home page should open.

You can find out more about the WIFI bands and how to change them in the EE Smart 5G hub User guide

Your Smart 5G Hub WIFI is secured using the latest technology (WPA2/WPA3 Transition mode). Before changing the WIFI bands, you can try enabling the WIFI compatibility mode on your hub when connecting your security cameras.

Ali

Hi Ali

thanks, but neither of the addresses will work on Safari - just nothing happens. If I use the IP address showing on the Wi-Fi settings I see while logged in in my phone, it’s the same. If I use the similar number (different last 3 digits) showing lower in the list as “Router” I can see the hub EE homepage. Unfortunately I can’t get past that because as soon as I enter the Admin Password (which hasn’t been amended - this is a new hub) I simply get the rotating green circles of doom. I’m getting too frustrated to continue now

Hi Ali

I tried it with Chrome and it did work - seems there’s a compatibility problem with Safari.

I found the ‘compatibility’ option too - thanks - and I managed eventually to connect my cameras. Thanks!

My goodness - why isn’t this sort of information available with the hub or at least on the website?
