If I put in the mobile number of the SIM in the router, it sends the code to it (possibly - I have no way to then read it as it's in the router). I have taken the SIM out and put in an unlocked phone - still won't send a code. Just says there's been an error.

Bought mobile PAYG 4g broadband router from Argos. When try to link to EE site, it requests mobile number. But will not accept my non-ee mobile. Can't use the mobile number associated in the router if it's in the router. If I take it out and put it in another phone, still will not send code. So I can't monitor my data usage or top up etc. Spent a long time talking to very nice man at EE but in the end no help.

I see this is a long-standing problem which EE haven't fixed for at least 2 years.

Any advice?

Otherwise I'll just buy a new SIM every 2 months which will be tedious but will work.

It's not your non-EE mobile phone no. it is after but the mobile no. of the EE SIM in the router.

Mobile routers contain a SIM. All SIMs have a mobile no. Visit http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status from a device connected to your mobile router by WiFi to see your data & credit status as well as its mobile no. at the top.

Have now had chance to visit the link you gave. That works! Many thanks for this.

Not sure why the EE help guy didn't tell me this!

Still can't link it on website/app, but now I can top up etc so I'm happy.

Thanks again!

Most mobile routers can receive texts & reply to them. Login to it & look for the SMS Section/Inbox.
