topic Slower speeds on passthrough with 5G HH70c? in Mobile Broadband

Now this may just be me and having some intermittent results, but does the 5G HH70c switch from 5G to 4G in passthrough mode? I can get faster speeds on my iPhone 12 in 5G mode than I can connected to the HH70c in passthrough, with the test being done in the same place.

I reset the HH70c as I was having some issues, so did some test.

Passthrough disabled.

iPhone 12 5G - U 164 D120
iPhone 12 4G - U 100 D 78
iPhone 12 wifi HH70c - U160 D 110
iMac LAN HH70c - U154 D115

Passthrough mode on.

iPhone 12 5G - U 165 D119
iPhone 12 4G - U 98 D 88
iPhone 12 wifi - U100 D 81
iMac LAN HH70c - U94 D84

So it almost seems like the settings of the HH70c has been set at 4G from the results.

The problem is you cannot log into the HH70c when in passthrough mode to see what band it is on.

When you're using your 5G Hub in Passthrough mode, what are the lights on the front showing?

Also is it definitely the WAN port that you have the separate router connected to?
Peter

That's good, always makes sense to check these things @TrickyT.

If you haven't already I'd recommend checking to make sure there aren't any firmware updates available here.

To do this you'll need to come out of passthrough, but head to the Hub Manager and once logged in select Device > Firmware Updates, and here it will allow you to either enable automatic updates, or check manually.

I am sure I have automatic updates enabled.

The only issue with using passthrough mode is that for you to come out of it, you need to reset the Hub first, then you have to change the password, check for updates, before then going back into passthrough mode.

So I decided to do some experimenting. Reset the hub and start again.

I reset the ISP router and allocated it a 192.168.50.x network. Then connected the WAN port of the ISP router to the WAN port of the UDM-SE, which was then allocated a 192.168.50xxx IP address.

Everything is working correctly and I can access the GUI of the ISP router to check. I will monitor to see if I get any disconnections and can then check on the ISP router to see if there is an issue.

My speeds were never above 100 Mbps using passthrough mode, which has been the same since I have been using passthrough. But now I am getting constant speeds of 140 Mbps and above down and over 120 Mbps up.

Now it may just be a coincidence, but for now, I will use it as I now have it.

WiFi 7 is not just about speed. The addition of the 6GHz band allows for lower latency wireless connections as well as suffering from less congestion from nearby networks as most connections are currently 5GHz or 2.4GHz due to running on WiFi 6 or below.
