topic 4G smart hub in Mobile Broadband

Evening all!

A few weeks ago we switched from BT fixed line Broadband to BT/EE wifi broadband and we are now using a 4GEE WiFi router for faster speeds. We have a large old farmhouse (thick walls) on three floors, so full coverage will always be a challenge. At the moment we have the router in the office on the first floor, so I can get best performance as I work from home and have frequent online meetings. I've put in a TP Link extender on the other side of the house, and that works really well most of the time. But I get complaints from family that their connection is not as strong as mine.

Any advice?

We have the same situation, with a large stone walled farmhouse.

Openreach came out recently and tested the wi-fi signal 30 cm from the router and it was fine. He then moved to the next room, 3 m from the router, and the speed had halved. His suggested solution.......Get a faster package so the fall-off doesn't affect things so much.....Don't reset the router too often as the software thinks there is a problem on the line and reduces the speed to improve stability.

He said "Phone EE and ask them to reset the speed to maximum. (Dynamic was one of the words he used in his explanation of the problem, but I can't remember the exact terminology) .

That was a very revealing answer, we knew that things always seemed to improve after a phone call to ask for help, and here was the explanation!

Dynamic Line Management (DLM) is what he was referring to & that is employed in fixed Home BB.
