Has anyone successfully replaced the EE firmware on an EE branded NR5103 router with the stock Zyxel NR5103 firmware. please?

I've seen a Youtube video showing someone going into the o/s via SSH and changing a setting that then facilitates this but they never actually did the firmware change.

Reason I ask is that I am led to believe the Zyxel firmware has more facilities as the EE firmware is locked down.

I found some problems when I tried to apply the same steps in video. First, the port 22 is locked by company which means that I can't communicate with router. So, I try to find a solution of this problem by contacting many engineers in and out ZYXEL company but I didn't get a response yet.

I found someone he solved the same problem with another device by using engineering tools. These tools are expensive than from the router itself.

If I find any update then I will inform you

Interesting article. I wonder if there is something similar with the Zyxel hardware based 5G router.

Interesting it uses OpenWRT as well. I have used OpenWRT on a non SIM router I had connected to a BT hub but did prefer DD-WRT firmware.

I did return the Three branded Zyxel NR5103 router I had as it had the known issue of it not picking up a 5G signal. Replaced it with a TP-Link Deco X50-5G router which has some of the most basic firmware going (you cant seperate 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi signal without setting up 5ghz as the main channel and 2.4ghz as guest for starters). Only got it because the price had dropped (still around £300) and I needed to prove that the NR5103 was faulty.

But actually operationally it is pretty good. 2 mins to setup and even without connecting it to a 5G compatible external aerial I was getting speeds of around 130mbps for 5G inside a metal box (well a caravan lol) that is in a rural area (and the sea to one side). Quite impressed to be honest despite the firmware. Saying that I get the same results even if the external aerial is connected and enabled in the firmware which I find strange

I have to say that EE's firmware is really bad. You have cut off too many functions and it is really a waste of its performance. Can you please optimize EE's firmware? If you can't do that, please unlock the firmware for us and let us return to Zyxel. At the very least, Zyxel can update the firmware development function to maintain our equipment. And you EEs are trash and can’t do anything.

First of all, ee cannot lock the frequency band. I mean N77.N78. Secondly, the USB interface on the back cannot be used. Generally speaking, normal router USB can be used to access the hard disk, such as the SMB function, and it does not even have the most basic bridge network function. Don’t you understand that you are already several versions behind the Zyxel firmware?
